Beta Reading

A first impressions perspective of your work, focused primarily on comprehension and enjoyment as a reader—general feedback about the plot, characters, pacing, and flow without in-depth suggestions or critique. You will be provided with a 1–2 page summary of the overall experience, detailing what worked well and noting any instances of confusion, awkwardness, or disengagement.

Average Turnaround: 1-2 weeks

Critique

A critical examination of the structure, plot, characters, pacing, and flow. Critiques are primarily performed on individual sections (scenes and/or chapters), usually out of context from the rest of the project, and don't have to be in a particular order. Rewriting is not provided, but comments and suggestions will be tracked in the document margins. You will also be provided with a 2–3 page editorial letter, detailing areas of concern and guidance on how to proceed.Grammar, spelling, repetition, and line-by-line linguistic flow is not part of this service.

Average Turnaround: 1-2 weeks

Developmental Editing

The big picture deep dive. Much like a critique, the structure, plot, characters, pacing, and flow are scrutinized but with an additional focus on consistency and development from front to back. Comments and suggestions will be tracked in the document margins, and a minor to moderate level of rewriting may be offered based on the project's needs. You will also be provided with a 2–5 page editorial letter, detailing areas of concern and guidance on how to proceed.Grammar, spelling, repetition, and line-by-line linguistic flow is not part of this service.

Average Turnaround: 2–3 weeks

Line Editing

A stylistic polish focused on line-by-line linguistic usage and flow. Every sentence is evaluated for tone, intention, clarity, consistency, necessity, and impact. Comments and suggestions will be tracked in the document margins, and a minor to moderate level of rewriting may be offered based on the project's needs. You will also be provided with a style sheet, highlighting the most important and/or frequent changes, and a brief reader report.Developmental concerns are not part of this service.

Average Turnaround: 3-5 weeks

Copy Editing

A mechanical polish focused on grammar, spelling, punctuation, and the reduction of filler words (ex: just), filter words (ex: felt), adjectives, and adverbs. Rewriting is not provided, but a minor amount of word swapping may be suggested based on the project's needs. Explanations for recommended corrections will be tracked in the document margins. You will also be provided with a style sheet, highlighting the most important and/or frequent changes, and a brief reader report.Narrative repetition and line-by-line linguistic flow is not part of this service.

Average Turnaround: 2-4 weeks

Proofreading

The final scan before a project is printed. All other stages of editing should be completed before this step.Any remaining spelling, grammar, or punctuation errors will be addressed. Should additional concerns be encountered along the way, they will not be corrected. They will instead be noted and the project will be returned to you for further revision.

Average Turnaround: 1-2 weeks

Ghostwriting

An all-inclusive process encompassing developmental, line & copy editing services in addition to writing your manuscript. Open to both fiction and non-fiction, ranging from flash fiction into full-fledged novels. An extensive interview and regular review and revisions are scheduled to ensure your story is told the way you want it. Following the developmental revisions and approval of the completed manuscript, line & copy editing begins (unless it's requested for another editor to polish it). This service is extensive and involves a lot of open communication, but following the completion of the manuscript, all rights belong to you and no future sales royalties are owed.

Average Turnaround: 2-5 months

Treena took the polished turd I gave her and turned it into a gold bar. What she does with words is akin to what alchemists do with gold. She helped make, not only my manuscript better, but me a better writer. I couldn't recommend Treena more as an editor, or just as importantly, a person!

— Langdon Franz, author of Heirs of the Promise

Treena has been an absolute delight to work with. She’s respectful, encouraging, [and] always willing to listen to the writer’s opinion and adapt to their needs. In the couple of years I’ve known her, she’s given me plenty of tools which have helped me grow as a storyteller. I’m incredibly thankful that our paths happened to cross.

— Emma B, casual storyteller

Cannot express how awesome [she is], teaching me a lot and guiding me on how to improve my current WIP.Noting down EVERYTHING moving forward!

— AsuraRhythm, author of Wolves of Wrath

I think the work you put into the edits and the level of detail in the comments is [a] testament to what I believe I'm looking for in an editor.

— Alex Dove, author of The Lost Demigod

I think you truly made me enjoy this piece all over again!

— sin, casual storyteller

Her editing is extremely thorough, and she puts in a lot of extra effort explaining the reasoning behind her edits and suggestions. I thought I could edit my own work, but now I know better.

— Quiche de Flurry, author of Chasing the Heavy Air

Unbelievable critiquing and editing!I was blown away by the fantastic job she did editing and critiquing my first three chapters. She's a winner! The greatest investment [I've] made in my writing.

— Jeffrey Hodge, author of Spitball!

I’ve been writing and editing for French publishers for more than ten years. When I started writing in English, both for personal and professional reasons, Treena was the first person who didn’t give up after a couple of chapters. She's also been more thorough than anyone else I've worked with before—in French or English.Speaking from personal experience, editing a writer who isn’t a native speaker is a tough job. But Treena's always shown great patience and answered my questions when I didn’t understand a correction. She's also provided helpful advice on grammar, style, and storytelling, much of which I can apply to my French novels. I've learned more in two years working with her than I did in ten years with French publishers and am now more confident in my stories.

— Kailyn Mei, author of various novels and short stories

I’ve been working with Treena for about two years—off and on, as I hop from project to project and inevitably seek her assistance. In all of my experience with her, I couldn’t ask for a better editor. Treena's unfailingly professional, yet warm and approachable. Her critiques are inspired, accurate, and delivered with politeness and authorial understanding. I’ve heard horror stories about authors and editors clashing and the cataclysmic effect that can have, but after working so smoothly with Treena, it’s hard to believe such tales aren’t exaggerations.Treena’s edited several genres, writing styles, and types of work for me, and I've always found her insight invaluable. Her critiques are exactly what I need to hear. From grammar minutiae—the mastery of which she mystifyingly possesses—to clarifying the idea of a sentence; from suggesting stronger phrases to providing reader insights about inconsistencies; from discussing concepts to pointing out that a character’s physical position has unintentionally changed fifteen times throughout a scene, Treena has proven to be a vital asset and a trusted advisor. To any aspiring writer, in a creative genre or not, it's a privilege to work with her. She's incredibly talented both in her craft and in her interpersonal relationships with writers. They say only a fellow writer can make sense of the chaos of another writer’s brain, and it's demonstrated in Treena. She's done nothing short of read my mind several times, and I never fail to be awed by her as a person and as an editor.

— Sophie P., casual storyteller

We had the pleasure of working with Treena when we were looking for help with our website. Specifically, we needed someone to ensure it was elegant and would explain what we do formal manner.Treena was not only professional and easy to work with, she also got the job done quickly and efficiently. Her attention to detail is amazing! We were able to create a beautiful website without fear of grammatical errors or unnecessary information. We could not recommend her more for anything you need professionally written!

— Nyx & Skyler, small business owners

A writer is only as good as their editor’s ability to bring out the best in their work while maintaining the writer's authentic voice. For months, I'd been frazzled while trying to self-edit my T'was 2020 poem—it was almost comical. Being so close to and heavily invested in my own content was like being unable to see the forest through the trees, but Treena was able to efficiently clear all the poem's challenges. Her direction was brilliant and precisely what I look for in an editor.A good writer and editor collaboration should work like a hand in a glove. And we certainly did. It was an excellent experience. I plan to book Treena again for future projects.

— JaTeaka, casual poet and storyteller

Working with Treena as both a writing coach and editor to improve the flow and readability of my fictional texts as a non-native speaker has helped me a lot. She does an excellent job of showing me where I can improve while keeping an informative and fair tone.I always received basic information on the style, length, and deadline and clear statements of where to make corrections, deletions, or minor changes, while leaving it open to me as to if I wish to follow those suggestions or not. Her feedback has been essential to the plot, pacing, and consistency of my works. She is a proven and trustworthy editor, ensuring I always achieve completion by respecting my aims and scope as an author. What I appreciate most is that she's friendly and often grasps what I would like to convey without further inquiries. Having an eye for complex relations in long texts enables easy
communication with her. I highly recommended working with her.

— M. Hoerth, casual storyteller

Frequently Asked Questions

How Should I Prepare My Document?

- Font: 12 pt, Times New Roman or Arial
- Line Spacing: Either 1.5 or 2.0
- Replace all manual tabs at the start of paragraphs with automatic indenting of 0.3–0.5
- Separate chapters with page breaks
- Do not use justified paragraph alignment
Please save your document as either a .doc or .docx file. Google Docs files may be accepted if you don't have access to either Microsoft Word or OpenOffice Writer.

What If I Don't Prepare My Document?

If your document is not formatted based on the above requirements, you may be asked to do so and resend the file before edits are made.If you are unable to format your document, or prefer not to do so yourself, there may be a formatting fee of up to $100 (USD).Misformatted files can slow down the editing and publishing process. The cleaner, more simplified, and more automated the formatting, the less time will need to be put into correcting/readjusting the document later, as all publishers/self-publishing platforms have their own formatting requirements that are easier to adhere to when your manuscript isn't forced into a specific—especially manual—formatting setup.

What Happens if I Cancel My Booking?

If you cancel your booking before the work has begun on your project, you will not be charged a fee. However, if you cancel your booking after work has already begun on your project, you will be charged for the work already performed.Example: If you booked a line & copy edit package and cancel after 5000 words have already been edited, you'll be charged $60 (5000 x 1.2¢).

Is A Contract Required?

Yes! Contracts for each project are necessary to ensure the comfort and financial protection of both the author and the editor. All contracts outline, in detail, the needs of the project(s), the cost of services, and the date of return. They also stipulate the mutually agreed upon terms for cancellation, alternation, and late returns, and are designed with the intention of ensuring all participants can proceed with confidence.

What Happens if the Services Are Completed Late?

Should your project be returned at a date later than agreed upon, you will receive a 10% discount on the total cost of the performed services. However, late returns are rare—and only related to instances of severe illness or personal family matters—and will always been actively communicated.
